Good news for Illinois forest landowners — the IDNR Forestry Division has reopened the Forest Development Act (FDA) Cost-Share Program!
This program helps private landowners offset the cost of forest management and restoration — including tree planting, forest improvement, and invasive species control. Approved applicants can receive reimbursement for up to 75% of project costs once work is completed and approved by a District Forester.
Apply by October 31 to be part of the first sign-up period since the program’s relaunch. Future rounds will open quarterly in January, April, July, and October.
Landowners should contact their local District Forester for help completing the application. Both an FDA Cost-Share Form and W-9 are required (with matching names and addresses).
This is a great opportunity to improve forest health, enhance wildlife habitat, and reduce management costs — all while contributing to a more resilient Illinois landscape.
