Chainsaw Safety & Directional Felling Training (Levels 1-2)

Whether you are a beginner who has never touched a chainsaw, or someone with years of experience, this 2-day hands-on course can benefit you!  Hosted by the University of Illinois Extension Forestry Program, this course will be taught by Extension Forester Jay Hayek. The goals of this training are to achieve competency in the safe operation of chainsaws, introduce participants to the open-face directional felling method, and learn techniques for bucking, de-limbing, and addressing spring poles.

The course will have some classroom presentations, but primarily with be hands-on training in the field.  Maximum enrollment is 10 people. Registration fee is $50/attendee, which includes lunch on both days. This course runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on March 17-18, 2017, meeting at the Dixon Springs Agricultural Center (354 State Highway 145 N, Simpson, IL). For class participants from out-of-town, there is the option of lodging at Dixon Springs.
